You’ve heard of phishing, but what’s whaling?

Yes, it is another type of fraud designed to relieve you of hard-earned money.

This one though is targeted at senior company personnel.

In a whaling attack, cyber criminals impersonate a business’ CEO or senior executives although the ultimate aim is the same as it is for any scam – attempts to access funds or steal private data.

The targets will most likely be employees who are remote working and they will be approached either by phone or email.

As ever, your employees should have robust cyber security training and be told to never, ever, click on suspect links in emails asking for funding transfers or sensitive information.

If in doubt, they should always check back with the named executive using known and secure existing company routes and not the ones in the suspect email.
